It’s Summer time and there are a few things you can bet on. I’ll be soaking up that Vitamin D any way I can, I’ll rediscover fruit like it just came to earth and I’ll turn into the Don’t Get My Hair Wet monster lol. I know you smiled at that last one because we are all in the same boat and what else are we supposed to do to protect our precious locks?! Well I’ll tell you a few .. or quite a few things you can do to protect your hair this summer and you can pick and choose what you like!
First lets address how we get moisture and hydration into our skin and hair. No mystery here, its by drinking lots and LOTS of water. The same reason our kiddos go outside for an hour and then crash on the floor like they ran a marathon after is because the sun just sucks all the hydration and electrolytes out of our bodies faster than usual in the summer! Drinking water is the first step to getting your hair through this season.
Next is where our products come into play. Not only do we want to add moisture into our hair topically but we also want to lock in the moisture and protect it from the heat and UV rays to keep it protected and hydrated. I know many of us think to just use a leave in and oil, but I want to take it a step further and think about naturally curly hair texture. Curly hair is dry naturally so of course all products for curly hair is to hydrate and lock in the moisture so those locks can stay shiny and bouncy.
These are the same concerns we have with our hair during the summer which is why I’ve put this Summer Trio together for my top regimen recommendations!
My Summer Product Regimen
The Unite Boing Curl Leave In – This leave in not only conditions the hair so you can detangle it easily, but it also has some oil in it to give it some extra slip to make that process even easier when our hair is extra dry or the pool or beach has our hair in knots.
The Unite Boing Moisture Curl Cream – This is your best friend if you plan to be near the water and maybe get your hair wet. The Moisture Curl Cream can be applied root to ends to hydrate, condition, keep humidity out and your natural texture soft and bouncy with no stiffness while you let your hair air dry! This will also be a great defense from the sun and if you throw your hair in a braid or bun before getting in, then you are ready to keep out those unwanted chemicals from the pool.
The Unite U Oil – This Argan Oil will shine , seal and protect the cuticle from heat and UV damage as well as provide instant hydration to your mid strand to ends. The best part about this oil is that because of how well your hair absorbs this oil, you can use it wet or dry as often as you need!
The Unite Weekender Shampoo – After a week of sun exposure and being in the natural elements, it is important to clarify your scalp and ends to give it a good reset for the next week’s adventures. This clarifying process is also what keeps your ends from looking brassy and dingy from too much UV and chemical buildup. The best part about the Unite Weekender is that it is so gentle you can pull it through your ends and leave it on for 5-7 minutes to give an added protein treatment! (Your ends will be so soft after)
Apply these products with the BEST DeTangler brush on the market that will gently brush through those tangles with minimal pulling and gentle enough to brush out your extensions!
The Accessories That Matter
Finally I couldn’t wrap this up without sharing the accessories that matter! You’ve heard over and over again that cutting back on the heat styling during the summer is best when you can and I would agree, except I would like to point out that Blow Drying your hair with a brush that does not heat up is not in that “heat styling” category considering a hair dryer will get up 175 degrees and an iron will get up to 450 degrees! Using a boar brush to create your smooth “flat iron” look but without the flat iron is so much better for your hair and will last much longer through the heat and humidity than a iron style would!
The other accessory that matters so much in the summer sun is a good ole hat to protect your scalp and hair from those harsh UV rays and not to mention protect your skin! The sun will strip your natural oils and toner out of your hair faster than normal just by being exposed too often to the sun. Snag a cute boho hat to get you through and you’ll be in style at the very least!
Imagine the summer being a time to repair your hair instead of wreck it?! Just incorporate these tips this summer and your hair will thank you for it!
