In case you missed it, I recently did my first “Get Ready with Me” video. I mean, I love watching them, so I figured maybe you do too! While I did walk you through the products I used, I also felt like it was a good opportunity to give you all a little life update because it has been a wild last few years. If you aren’t into videos or if you’re sitting at the dentist and need something to read, I summed the video up for you below. Make sure you read to the end where I linked all of the products I used!
I think we can all agree that one way or another, the last few years have forced us to pivot. For me, a lot of that had to do with how I run my business. I opened my salon in 2019 and I was on a strong growth trajectory. The economy was good, the need was there, and things felt stable. Then 2020 hit and I had to evolve. Lucky for me, my online presence allowed me to continue to thrive. Although people weren’t going into the salon as much, my Halo business was booming. What better way to achieve salon-grade results at home! That continued through 2021 and I felt grateful to have made it through a time that was so devastating for so many people. And then 2022 hit.
While we were coming out of the pandemic fog (thank goodness), things were different. The economy was different, business was different, consumer needs were different – everything felt like it had been flipped on its head. I had pivoted once before and I was confident I could do it again, but no one prepares you for how hard some of those pivots actually are. Here’s the thing – when you’re running a business, you have to be strategic with your funds and energy because you don’t have an unlimited amount of either one. At the time I had 8-10 stylists in the salon and I knew I needed to downsize. I went down to three and found my other incredibly talented stylists new salon homes. While I knew this was necessary, it was also one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my business.
At the end of the day, I had to ask myself where I wanted my energy to go and it was simple. I wanted to be present for my family, connect with women all over the world, educate professionals in my community and serve as an inspiring corner of social media. If I stayed aligned to those concepts, I knew I would continue to grow my business in an authentic way. So, what are some of the things I did to evolve? I’m so glad you asked!
YouTube has always been at the center of my business. In fact, in a lot of ways, it allowed me to venture into my other businesses more confidently because I had a built-in audience. This year, I’ve rededicated myself to my YouTube roots and will be posting 1-2 videos every week! Make sure you subscribe to my channel so that you can stay up to date!
Education has been another passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I love to learn from people who inspire me and I wanted to be that for other professionals in my community. Part of how I survived as a salon owner during the pandemic was through my custom Halo business. Diversifying my income had never been more important and I had incredible success. I’ve now created a Halo course where I teach industry professionals how to consult, sell, color and customize Halo extensions.
On a personal note, last year I became obsessed with energy and visualization, and I started getting intentional with my actions (both personally and professionally). It’s amazing how when you start acting with intention, your life starts to change in the best ways possible. It’s not always easy because sometimes change means saying goodbye to circumstances and people that no longer serve you, but with hard goodbyes come new beginnings.
It’s safe to say I learned A LOT in 2022 and we’re only a few months into 2023 and it’s already shaping up to be an intense year. That being said, I couldn’t be more excited about applying the lessons I learned last year and watching my life and business unfold. I’ll be continuing to evolve based on what my audience (Hello, friend!) needs and I couldn’t feel more confident about the direction I’m headed. At the end of the day, I’m throwing fear out the window, getting vulnerable and committing myself to furthering my connection with all of you. I’m hoping you’ll get vulnerable too and tell me what you’re looking for in terms of content and how I can best serve you.
With that, I hope you know how amazing you are, and I hope this year you take the time to redirect your energy and get clear on what makes you happy. It may be getting back to your roots or it may be something totally different. Either way, this can be the year you take it back, reach for more and live as your most authentic self.
Cheers to 2023. Let’s do this.
Wait, don’t go!
