When I am looking for a blow dryer for myself I always judge it by a few factors. It’s easy to get lost in the marketing jazz and not really know what the key differences are when researching hairdryers.
Important Factors
- How powerful does the air blow? – I have found that the hairdryers with “brushless motors” are by far the most powerful. This factor is #1 because the key to a blow dry going quickly is definitely influenced by how much air is coming out of that dryer.
- How well does the dryer control the temperature? – The reason I don’t consider blow drying your hair a damaging heat styling method is because a good hair dryer should not blow out heat higher than 175 degrees. If it is doing its job right then that is less than half the heat that our irons use. Combine that with a boar brush that does not conduct heat but rather absorbs it, then we are talkin minimal heat on your hair.
- What is the weight and how is the weight distributed? – It’s no secret that blow drying can make you tired. What I have found is that hair dryers that are a pound or less and carry most of the weight in the motor are far less tiresome as we blow dry.
Blowdryer Reviews
The blowdryers were judged based on the 3 factors I spoke about above, the price point, and the average reviews found online by multiple retailers such as Sephora, Ulta, Amazon, & Walmart.
Up first, of course, was the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer . I have to get this one out of the way because it is by far the most expensive and my own personal bias. However, I will say you get what you pay for and this blow dryer has been the best one I have ever used for the last 4 years! The only criticism I will say is that it is very high maintenance with cleaning in that you have to really stay up on the filter being clean consistently.

The Tools You Need
I could not give you my hairdryer referrals without also sharing with you the best brushes you can use with your hair dryer to get the results you need with smoothing, volume and keeping your hair healthy in the process!
The Alto & The Treble from Ensemble Hair are my favorites for my clients and to use on myself to achieve long lasting smooth hair with minimal effort and ensuring their hair stays healthy so they can continue to work towards their hair goals of growing and healing their hair.
Thank you so much for this blowdryer review! I have been going back-and-forth for months on whether I should buy the Bio Ionic Graphene MX or not. I’ve owned and loved a Bio Ionic blow dryer in the past, but I couldn’t decide if the new technology was going to be worth the money. After reading review I bought it and I love it!!! It is truly amazing. It dries my hair fast, smooth and frizz free! It is so much better than the Bio Ionic that I had owned before and it is worth every penny! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing that! I’m so glad my review helped you decide and you love it! I was so impressed with that hairdryer too! Good buy for sure 🙂
