Three Barrel Waves With A Twist

As a busy Mom and business owner, I am always looking for easy styles that I can wear over for the week. Give me a style that takes me 10 minutes to do, takes little expertise, gives me beachy volume, and allows me to go for DAYS before I need to wash it again. The three barrel waves with a twist will give you all of those things!

I originally discovered the three barrel back the day when those pristine crispy waves I admired on Lizzie McGuire were all the rage and of course the volume was unbeatable. In more recent times, I Rediscovered this handy tool when my daughter asked for it for Christmas! She too was look for those perfect waves with not a hair out of place but all I wanted to do was mess them up create a beach like texture! Pairing the Bed Head 3 Barrel with my favorite Babyliss Pro Curling Iron was a perfect match to create this look and was so easy and fast it has by far become my favorite.

  1. Warm up your three barrel iron at the highest heat setting and your curling iron at medium high to highest heat setting.
  2. Section your hair from the top of your ears and down while clipping the rest of your hair up and out of the way.
  3. Grab a thick section of hair from this first section ( 2 inches wide should be a good start)
  4. Make sure your 3 barrel is open and place hair in-between barrels
  5. Begin your first clamp as close to your head as you can without touching and close the two barrels together
  6. Hold closed for 2-3 seconds and then release
  7. Without completely removing the iron from the section, just slide the three barrel down to the last arch that you created and let it follow the barrel pattern on the iron to then Clamp down on the section.
  8. Continue this method down the section of hair until there is an inch or so left on this  section.
  9. Then Repeat steps 3-8 on the following sections.
  10. Your next parting should be from your temples and down and repeat steps 3-8 around the head but LEAVE OUT the first INCH around your hairline
  11. Your next parting will depend on the density of your hair. If your hair is thick, then go ahead and part your hair from your Mohawk and down and repeat steps 3-8 and again leave out the first inch around your hairline.
  12. On your final section you are going to switch from your three barrel to your curling iron.
  13. Grab a 1” by 1” piece of hair and slide this between the clamp of your curling iron.
  14. Starting a couple inches from your head you will release the clamp the curling iron and roll up towards your head and away from your face about one turn.
  15. Without unclamping, unwrap the iron and slide the iron down the section another couple inches and again roll up towards you head and away from your face one turn.
  16. Repeat step 15 until you have just over an inch hanging out of the iron. Then unwrap one last time and drag the iron down the rest of the section to straighten out the ends.
  17. Repeat steps 14-16 on the entire mohawk section and hair left around the hairline.
  18. Once this is completed then go back through and pick up random sections of Three Barreled hair and curl those pieces to add in texture.
  19. When finished, Spray hair with the Aquage Dry Shampoo to set.
  20. Run your fingers through your hair to separate sections and blend the two textures together.
  21. Finally finish with your favorite texture spray to create lightweight volume.

Over the following days I will maybe touch up 4 curls on top and that’s it because it really does wear well over the next few days. Each morning I will reapply the Aquage Dry Shampoo first and I will also use the Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine to add shine back into the texture of the waves by lightly misting over the entire head.
