Think about anyone you follow that is in your industry or not that you may look up to or just tend to keep up with their work. With those people in mind I’m sure you could identify one or two things they do extremely well that has kept your attention as a follower or as a customer.
Now take it a step further… if you or someone you knew needed a specific product of service and someone you followed was exceptional for whatever reason, wouldn’t you refer them?
Well guess what? You need to be that person people think of. So sit down and start writing down what makes you YOU and lets be honest about what YOU do well. A good place to start when your not sure is to think of what about your business gets you THE MOST excited? Usually on the flip side that is what you do well.
Now here comes the honesty… None of us are perfect so take the time once a week to start perfecting that piece of your business that is memorable! Share with your customers and audience what you are taking the time to learn or get better at even if you aren’t an expert yet! I PROMISE you that investment of time will turn into revenue fairly quickly and everything that comes with it will take you even farther!
When I was first getting started in my business, I looked at myself to think of some way that I could pose myself as an educator with my audience online. What is something I could teach them? I know what you are thinking. What could I possibly teach people that they couldn’t already learn from someone else online? Well guess what. It doesn’t matter that 500 other people have already made a post or a video about it, your audience wants to hear what YOU have to say about it. Getting past our inner voice and excuses of why we can’t educate in our “space” is a crucial step that we need to take to show ourselves and others that we take ourselves seriously and they should too.
A friend of mine taught me that a 3rd grader can always teach a 1st grader because they know just enough higher knowledge than the person they are teaching. Then when that 3rd grader becomes a 5th grader and the younger a 3rd grader, they can still teach them because they have still acquired more knowledge along the way and now they have also gained the knowledge to teach a 2nd grader and 1st grader etc. What this means is that as long as you know just enough more than your audience then you can teach them something and keep their attention. As you grow and learn more and more then your audience will continue to grow and the pool of content you are creating will become larger to attract a larger audience.
You started your business or career because you decided you have something to offer to your customer that is of value. Don’t get caught up in “why you can’t” , and instead start showing up for your audience no matter the size and you will see how your investment of time and growth will translate in your business.
