Can You Go to Bed with Wet Hair?

Okay, while this may seem like a very specific topic, I am surprisingly passionate about it. I know there are going to be a few people who disagree with me on this but hear me out. I think you may change your opinion by the time you’re done reading.

Listen, I get it. At the end of a long day, taking a shower and putting your hair in a wet bun out of your face sounds like a nice option, but let me help you think about it another way. After you take your clothes out of the washer, do you roll them into a tight ball and throw them into the corner? I sure hope not! Because what would happen? They wouldn’t dry all the way; they would be crusty instead of fluffy and they would STINK. Well friends, I hate to break it you, but your scalp is no different.

Ew, right?

So, let’s relate it back to your hair now. If the moisture from that wet, pulled back bun is stuck in your scalp for the 6-8 hours you’re asleep, it’s going to do a couple of things. First, it’s going to overproduce oil and you’re going be stuck in a cycle of eliminating an oily scalp that you don’t want to be in. Trust me. Second, the goal is always to go longer in between washes, but when your hair is stuck to your face or all over the place when you let down that bun, it’s going to be more difficult to achieve the style you’re hoping for. And lastly, remember that smell I was talking about? Yep, your scalp will give off a mildew-like scent which is probably not what most of us are going for.

Now, I know you’re probably thinking that I’m adding hours to your bedtime routine by telling you this, but I promise you can still have a low maintenance post shower experience. I’m a mom of three, wife and business owner – I can absolutely relate to needing the nighttime to feel EASY. Here’s what I recommend.

About an hour before bed, take your relaxing shower, wash your hair and get cozy. Make a plan to read, watch a show, catch up on emails or scroll through Instagram until your hair is about 50% air dried. Then, blowdry your hair the rest of the way using one of my favorite brushes. I would also recommend using the Unite Weekender Clarifying Shampoo once a week as well to ensure you’re keeping your hair as healthy as possible.

I mean if anything, I really just helped you build in an extra hour of relaxation to your evening while your hair dries!

I know this may sound silly, but trust me, it makes a huge difference.

Check out the FULL video where I break all of this down for you and comment on this post with your EXACT hair scenario so that I can respond to you specifically!

Happy washing (and drying)!
